as they beat Chelsea 5-1...

SUPER sub Jon-Paul Pittman hit a four minute hat-trick as double winners Chelsea were hammered at Adams Park.
With the first team on tour in Germany, the Blues put out a youthful second string for this friendly encounter but did included Scott Sinclair and Franco Di Santo, who both have Premier League experience.
The visitors even took the lead after Aliu Djalo had followed up Sinclair's parried effort early in the first-half.
Wycombe were level midway through the half when Scott Rendell turned and fired the ball into the top corner and then Ben Stevens put the home side in front from a tight angle.
Di Santo had a great chance to level in an end-to-end game before the introduction of Pittman and three quick fire finishes saw the Chairboys of League Two romp home.

Triallists - Who Will We Sign?

Well, now that Dobson's been to the bank and the embargo's lifted, as well as last night's forum representing an effective slap-down for all the naysayers (are you watching Tigerroar?), we can get back to the fun business of who we want to see pulling on a Boro shirt this coming season.

So which of the new boys who've taken part in the friendlies so far do we think The Smurf might offer a contract to following the Wycombe game this Saturday?

By my reckoning the candidates would be:
Zephirin
Conroy
Wolleaston
Challinor
Robinson
Benjamin
Clarke
McCollin
Mclean

Do correct me if I've got any of those wrong or missed anyone.

It seems like Zephirin could be a shoo-in to fill the reserve keeper slot (particularly after that penalty save against Godalming) and everyone on here seems to think Conroy would be a fantastic acquisition and exactly what we need at right back. Also, with the new Swansea manager seeming to lose interest in Deano, we may not be down a striker after all...

Thoughts?

King seems to be very keen on Wolleaston who would be a great capture. The Zeppelin looks a deffo to challenge for the keepers shirt.

Looks like we'll have a similar retricted size squad as per last season so not many will join. I'll be happy with those 2 and Conroy. Challinor would be a bonus but I'm guessing SH's pockets will already be at full stretch by then.

It must be very difficult for a manager this tim eof the year. ALthugh it stikres me that as we currently have 4 strikers on contract and another 4-5 on trial that it's also difficult to give them enough time on the pitch, especially as they all pretty much look the same in terms of skill level, etc:

Robinson
Benjamin
McCollin
Mclean

They all seem pretty interchangable.

Personally, there are 3 contracted players (not naming names) I'd happily release because we have trialists who are better.

Of all the trialists I think Challinor would be the best signing, so hopefully (a) he's still around and (b) we have the capacity to sign him. I'd be prpared to sacrifice an existing player to bring him in as he coul dbe oneo ofthe best players in the league at this level.

Otherwise Zepherin, Conroy and Wolleastonseem obvious signings (if Conroy doesn't get an offer from elswhere that allows him to continue with his modelling career). I think we need a speedy winger, so Clarke and McCollin seem to most abley fill this role.

I suppose if they don't get better offers and we have a full squad in place, some players may be willing to play on a non-contract basis.

King has always spoken about two in, two out, which would really limit us, particularly with a reduced budget on last year. Not sure who the two are, apart from Robinson (GK), but that would mean Zepherin/or another keeper would have to be a must. Conroy is a definite and I would try and squeeze Wolleaston in as well.
Much depends whether players are cheaper this year and King can get more for his money and if some players are willing to join on a pay as you play basis. A couple more might leave if they think they can get regular football elsewhere (eg Thomas, Sacha, Robbo etc).
I haven't seen Challinor play but he sounds like he could be a great addition if we had the finances.

I'd suggest that the two out doesn't include Robinson, but is a refernce to the remaining squad - ie if we get in trialist who impress more than a couple of existing contracted players then they'll get released. Suspect that a striker, a midfielder and a defender are under threat.

A couple of existing players have played very little... although got the impression that Robinson, for instance, has been injured due to the warming up he's been doing differing from other subs.

Jean-Zephirin: Made a mistake against Reading for the goal but otherwise has been quite good. Plus we need a back up keeper for Jordan.

Challinor: We have some very good midfielders already but after just one game against AFC Wimbledon you can see he is a class act.

Robinson: Needs to lose a bit of weight but has looked very good with the ball at his feet and still has a lot of pace. Been very impressed with him so far.

Conroy: Good player. Get a tackle in and gets the ball out of danger. Another option at right back which for me is the only place we needed some cover.

Benjamin (Might be worth another look)
McCollin (Got better players in his positions)
Clarke (Worth another look)
Wolleaston (If we could get Challinor then not needed)
Mclean (?)

Is Binns injured or what??

However, ignoring him I would suggest that McCollin is more versatile. He can play on the wing, but also up front.

And we lacked wingers last season (Price not performing, Ciardini not being played there, Braham-Barrett gets forward well but his final ball/shot are why he's not playing at a higher level).

No speech as such from Simon, he was keen from the start to answer any questions. Everyone has been paid, the safety work is ongoing and will cost in the region of 120k, 30k to replace the ceiling in the bar. Budget for this season for gates of 900, and prepared to lose in the region of 120k(last year 170k). Believe SK and JS have secured training facilities, nothing further from the Jacks( sorry, the second team in Wales) about Dean Mac, considering extending contracts of a couple of the players beyond the end of this season, but not all as the strength of the triallists who have wanted to come here is sign the club should not commit too soon.

Personally I hope he has a few cuttings from the message board from "Boro Supporters" and puts a few people straight!

Now... on a positive note, please can someone ask if we can have an online ordering facility (Ebay or Amazon if needs be) so that I can spend some money from a distance?

Thanks

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1297855/New-25-man-Premier-League-squad-rule-big-earners-sitting-out.html?

any chance of getting some of the players that miss out on their 25 man squad to come on loan to us ;-) (albeit the Prem clubs still paying their wages ;-) )

I wouldn't take any of those prima donnas over Nic Ciardini or Fiston Manuella. :-)

I can see your point though, its like players at our level doing Sunday league games too, but they'd soon stop loaning non-league sides top players when Stephen Ireland breaks a leg in a bad challenge from a Hampton full-back...

Besides, when a club has about 10 players out with injury or suspension the FA will just cave in and change the rules again anyway, like they did with Man City signing a keeper outside the transfer window last season.

agree that once one of the big four run into squad issues, they will buckle to their pressure and change the rules ;-)
